S. Lucia Trascinata al Martirio

1596
Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice

The title on the church's label is S. Lucia Trascinata al Martirio, "St. Lucy Dragged to Martyrdom," but in the legend the torturers fail to move her even an inch, because of the power of the Holy Spirit expressed by the angels at the top of the painting with their vase of graces. And it is not to her martyrdom that they are trying to drag her, but a brothel.
